Why families choose Catrigg
About Catrigg Retrievers
For more than 10 years, we have been raising retriever puppies at Catrigg with a focus on giving them a confident, well-prepared start before they join their new families. Based in the Yorkshire Dales and welcoming enquiries from families across the UK.
Meet the dogs behind Catrigg
Catrigg started more than a decade ago with our first two dogs, Molly and Jess. What began with those first litters grew into the Catrigg family you see today. Meet the girls behind Catrigg’s current litters and learn a little more about each of them.
The first eight weeks matter
A puppy’s start involves much more than feeding and watching them grow. From birth through to collection, we gradually introduce each litter to the handling, sounds, surfaces and everyday experiences they are likely to meet when they move into a family home. The aim is simple: make the outside world a little less unfamiliar when collection day arrives.
Handled from the start
The puppies are gently handled from their earliest days. As they develop, they experience different surfaces, spaces and everyday interaction rather than spending their first eight weeks in one unchanging environment.
Introduced to everyday life
As they grow, the puppies are gradually introduced to normal household sounds, outdoor areas, other dogs and new surroundings. Car travel, time on a lead and outdoor toileting are also introduced before they leave Catrigg.
Support beyond collection day
Families receive updates as their puppy grows, and our support does not stop when you drive away. If you need advice once your puppy is home, you can pick up the phone and speak to us.
From your first enquiry to bringing your puppy home
Catrigg litters are planned rather than constantly available, so puppies are normally placed with families through the waiting list. Here’s what happens.
-
1
Tell us what you’re looking for
Send an enquiry with a few details about yourself and the kind of puppy you’re looking for. A member of our team will give you a call so you can talk things through properly.
-
2
Join the waiting list
If you want to go ahead, we add you to the waiting list. There is no payment at this stage — joining the list is free and commits you to nothing.
-
3
Meet your puppy, and secure it
Once a litter has arrived, you can arrange a visit to see the puppies with their mother. When a puppy is allocated to you, a £500 deposit secures it and comes off the price. The deposit is non-refundable — full details are in the terms and conditions.

4
Bring your puppy home
No Catrigg puppy leaves before eight weeks old. Before collection, we will talk you through what you need at home and what to expect during those first few days together. Support is available after collection too.
What Catrigg families say
Choosing a breeder is a big decision. The best people to tell you what the experience is really like are the families who have already taken a Catrigg puppy home.
Questions about Catrigg puppies
A few of the things families usually want to understand before taking the next step.
Are Catrigg puppies bred for working or family homes?
Catrigg primarily breeds for people looking for a retriever as a family or companion dog. If you are unsure whether one of our puppies would suit your home or lifestyle, speak to us before joining the waiting list.
How do I join the waiting list for a puppy?
Start by sending us an enquiry. A member of our team will give you a call to discuss what you’re looking for and answer any questions. Joining the waiting list is free — the £500 deposit is only paid later, once a puppy has been allocated to you.
Where is Catrigg Retrievers based?
Catrigg Retrievers is based at The Old Dairy in Langcliffe, near Settle in North Yorkshire. Families enquire from across the UK, so you do not need to live locally to join the waiting list.
